The non-gambling stuff makes it worth the pilgrimage to me. Hooper Homestead Bed and Breakfast. It used to be a cute little touristy towns with your typical "mountain town" shops, but once limited stakes gamng was approved in Colorado it really went downhill. It is hard for many people to see the old CC through the filter of the casinos and all that come with them. Central City certainly has a longer, more historical backround than Evergreen. It is a great, historic western town, and it's very sad what gambling did to it. It's just that gambling changed the nature of the the kind of tourist attracted to CC. I parked near the lake, then walked back into town. I don't gamble but I've been to Vegas three times. The irony here is that the leaders of each town supported Gambling as a way to save the town. The mounatins of shot-crete and the large out of scale casinos. Part of the problem was that Blackhawk is closer to Denver and thus, got the majority of the traffic.
